Dr Anna Richter has studied critical urban sociology in Bremen and New York. Her research interests are in the sociology of events and festivals and urban events and their implications for urban policy. With a background in English Literature and Linguistics, her particular interests revolve around questions of discourse and power relations, which she explored in her PhD research on Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture 2008.

Having joined the UKCEM in 2007 as a Centenary PhD student, Anna has lectured in the Sociology of Sport and on the MA course in Cultural Tourism before her appointment. She is Correspondence Editor of CITY: analysis of urban trends, culture, theory, policy, action.
