Dr. Thomas Fletcher is a Lecturer in Events Management. In 2007 Tom won a Centenary PhD Studentship to study at Leeds Metropolitan University. Tom's PhD, which he completed in June 2010, examined the construction and contestation of white and British Asian identities in Yorkshire cricket. Tom has a strong background in sport and leisure. In 2005 he achieved a 1st class BA honours degree in Sport, Health and Exercise from The University of Durham. In 2006 Tom completed his MA in Sport in Popular Culture at Sheffield Hallam University and, in 2007, a P.G.C.E. at the University of Huddersfield.

Before joining UKCEM in January, 2011 he taught widely in sociology and socio-cultural aspects of sport and leisure at Leeds Metropolitan University. Tom's research interests relate to sport, social identities and issues of equity. Tom's current research examines the role of sports events in raising the interests of minority ethnic communities in sports clubs, the role of sports events for expressing cultural identities and the long term impact of sports events for regenerating communities.
