Jackie Mulligan joined Leeds Met in 2005 after 4 years managing communications, tourism, events, heritage, culture, business and emergency planning projects in the Caribbean. Highlights in her work included managing World Record freediving attempts, fundraising for a major shipwreck expedition and organising tourism conferences. In addition Jackie presented papers on cultural tourism and heritage in the Turks and Caicos Islands and Cuba.

Jackie worked as Festival Manager for the UK's Millennium Commission. During this time, she completed her Masters Degree in Leisure and Tourism and became a part-time lecturer for the London Metropolitan University where she developed a research interest in power and mobility.
