Harnessing Events & Festivals for Tourism

The UK Centre for Events Management (UKCEM) is pleased to announce a half-day event for anyone working in the tourism sector, focusing on best practice models for harnessing festivals & events for tourism.

The day will bring together senior policy figures with experience of developing, attracting and staging events to strengthen tourism.

Speakers already agreed are:

Gary Verity - Chief Executive, Welcome to Yorkshire, on how Yorkshire is supporting events and festivals to promote tourism.

Andrew Stokes – Chief Executive, Marketing Manchester, on the relationship between events and tourism in Manchester, including bidding for and generating sporting events of all scales.

Stella Hall – Creative Director, NewcastleGateshead Initiative and Director of Culture 10, on initiating and supporting high quality large scale arts events which attract visitors.

Keith Blundell - Head of Tourism, Liverpool City Council, on what the Capital of Culture is doing tourism in the city.

Adrian Christy - Chief Executive, BADMINTON England, on how to attract sports events to your area, and what would be expected from a host partner authority.  

Leila Jancovich – UKCEM and Coordinator of the Yorkshire Festivals Network on Arts Council England research to inform capacity building of existing festivals to support tourism.

Professor Rhodri Thomas - UKCEM, on the tourism impacts of events in rural areas, using experience from West Wales as his case study

The conference will discuss how to bid for events and how to utilise existing events for tourism. It will also look at case studies and learn lessons from other regions and organisations.
