Course Overview - PGDip/MSA International Responsible Events

More than ever, businesses and their clients are aware of environmental issues and their relationship with sustainability, competitiveness, ethics and policy. In 2007, the British Standard BS8901 (BSI 2007) initiative was launched to provide guidelines to make the events industry more environmentally responsible and for event managers to produce sustainable events.

This course is ideal for those seeking to improve their events management abilities to deliver events in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way. You will develop skills, techniques and strategies which will enable you to identify options for greater sustainability and meet the challenges of balancing social, environmental and economic goals against other event objectives.

Course Content

As the market leader in the provision of events management education, UK Centre for Events Management is delighted to be the first academic institution in the country to offer specialist postgraduate education in this important emerging area.

'Responsibility' is becoming an increasing priority within the private, public and community sectors at a local and international level. Events organisations operate in a complex political and social system in which many stakeholders lobby, compete and collaborate. Event and organisational longevity and sustainability are linked to relationships forged with key supporters. This course attempts to address the very real issues that are now facing the events industry within our global environment and the context of finite resources. There is a clear need for leadership figures working alongside and within the events industry with higher level skills and knowledge in areas of sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

This course will enable students to manage their event resources and activities in a more responsible way, continually improving performance, accountability and producing events in an ethical manner
