Professor Rhodri Thomas and Nicola McCullough are examining the economic impact of the Northern Rail Blackpool 9s competition . The competition will include all sides from the Co-operative Championship except Barrow raiders and Widnes Vikings who will meet instead in the final of the Northern rail Cup.
The assessment is being funded as part of a wider partnership between the Rugby Football League and the North West Development Agency.
